Milano: Less Seeing, More Doing

Since I’ve lived in Chicago, I have been asked many times something like “what’s Milan like?”. In fact, oftentimes, people here have never been to Italy and, if they have been, they’ve visited Florence, Rome and Venice. Sometimes the Amalfi Coast. Sometimes le Cinque Terre. But Milano? Almost never.

And you know, I think it’s such a bummer, because I believe Milan is one of the most beautiful, most fun, most livable places in the world, and yet it lives in the shade of those stereotypical Italian destinations.

I mean, nothing wrong with any of the places stated above. They are, in fact, beautiful, and majestic, and unique. But Milan differs from them, and carries an added value.

Milan is not about seeing. It’s about doing. There’s always plenty of things going on in Milan, whether that’s concerts, festivals, soccer games, fashion week, parties etc. In Milan, you can explore the thousands of amazing restaurants throughout the city, or you can visit the historic landmarks downtown. You can dance the night away in fancy clubs or you can enjoy a drink on the Navigli. You can shop til you drop or chill at the park.

We have a medieval castle right downtown, but also the best modern architecture in all of Italy. We have parks and canals, but also a bustling downtown filled with offices where all major multinationals want to put their Italian headquarters in.

Milan is all of this, and that’s what I really love about my hometown.

For one of my grad school advertising classes, we were given the assignment of marketing a vacation in Milan. I asked my Milanese friends to help me out, and we put together this fun video. I thought it would be cool to share it with you all!

Also, since I’m a Pinterest addict, I’ve put together a Pinterest board about Milan that I keep updating with the most beautiful images of my hometown. It really showcases all of Milan’s different facets. Check it out if you’d like!

But without further ado, here’s the video!

Did this video make you want to book a plane ticket to Milan? I would hope so! My hometown is literally one of the most underrated places in the whole world and I am just trying to spread some love! (P.S.: subscribe to my channel for more exciting content coming soon! I’ve JUST started it so it’s a little skimpy now!)

Have you ever been to Milan before? Did you enjoy it? Let me know!
